On Sunday, December 6, 2015, nine-year-olds Katelyn Eugenio and Eleanor Wyly will board a plane, with Head Coach Suzie Goodmanson, bound for Houston, Texas on their way to the Karolyi Ranch, the USA Gymnastics National Training Camp, just outside of Huntsville. There, the girls will train with the National Training Staff as members of the TOPs National B Team.
Eugenio’s and Wyly’s journey as national team members began this past summer when they and three of their teammates performed well enough in testing at the state level to be invited for additional testing by the National Training Staff at the Olympic facility in Huntsville.
TOPs [Testing Opportunity Program] is a USA Gymnastics talent search and education program for female gymnasts and coaches from across the United States. TOPS gymnasts are between the ages of 8 and 10 and of the 1,200 participants, only 300 qualify to participate in national testing.
Of the 300 participating, 100 girls were invited back to Texas for further training as part of the National A and B Camps. Eugenio and Wyly are two of these athletes.
Coach Goodmanson is excited for Eugenio and Wyly. It will be an experience of a lifetime as these two gymnasts work to impress the National Training Staff while representing NBAA Gymnastics and Vallejo at the national level.
